Sigh.

That's right, I've given into yet another internet craze.
I'm going to keep a blog.

This is mostly for the purposes of those who I don't often have the opportunity to talk to. Namely, my sister.

Okay, first, an introduction maybe?
I'm a freshman in college at Grand Valley State University. I like it :)
I'm an English major with a minor in Mathematics. I know they don't go together even remotely, but in my mind it makes sense. I want to be a high school teacher.

I was that nerdy kid in class who read Pride and Prejudice not because it was assigned, but because I have a genuine love for books. I could spend hours discussing the complexities of The Great Gatsby. So I figured being an English teacher fits pretty well. I also have always liked math because it just always made sense to me. You learn the method and the method works for everything. Even if it takes a little bit of effort to get there, you can always use the same method. I like stability in my life.

I am a Nerdfighter. if you don't know what that is, click here. I have a mild (okay, it's a bit more than mild) obsessesion with Harry Potter, have a love/hate relationship with Twilight (mostly hate), spend an unusual amount of time on YouTube, and play video games (albeit very badly). I have more music than most people can handle and I like ALL of it. I always have it playing. (Currently, Flake by Jack Johnson is playing).

I am in the process of watching every good movie ever created. Next on the list is Fight Club and Dead Poets Society. But it's a slow moving process. I also am attempting to watch a lot of television series. I finished Avatar, The Last Airbender recently, and am on season 4 of Boy Meets World. I have seen both series multiple times, but they never cease to entertain me. I am also halfway through season 3 of Dexter, which I love. And I am very slowly watching Full Metal Alchemist with my boyfriend and the little time I get to see him. When I finish those (which admittedly will take a while) I've decided that I'm going to watch The Office from the beginning. I am also now obsessed with House and Glee. I think that Jane Lynch is possibly one of the funniest actors ever.

After re-reading that I realize that I seem like a media obsessed child who does nothing but sit in her room and watch TV, but that is not at all the case. I do go to school, and I (unfortunately) spend the majority of my time doing homework for classes that I only quasi enjoy. Next semester though I have classes that I am very excited for, and as this semester is already more than half over, I won't waste your time by whining about the classes I have.

Other random things about me? I love any and every musical. I was a choir kid, and I will continue to be obsessed with Wicked. I don't care how cliche that may be. (Speaking of which, I have both Wicked and Son of a Witch sitting on my shelf just waiting to be read when I find the time :D) I ran cross country in high school, and while I rarely find the motivation to get up and go for a run, I do enjoy it and find it to be the best stress reliever I have discovered. I also did Destination Imagination in high school (which I suppose solidifies my status as a nerd) and enjoyed it more than anything else. Choir, cross country, and DI pretty much made my high school experience, and I miss my friends from there quite possibly more than anyone else. Except for my sister and boyfriend of course.

Are you bored yet?

Anyway, I'll be updating this with random thoughts and questions, as well as entertaining stories and possibly reviews of the books I read and movies I watch.

Reading: The Book Thief and The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah Equiano
Watching: Boy Meets World, Season 4, Dexter, season 3, and Real Women Have Curves (for my spanish class.)
Hearing: Take Me or Leave Me from Rent :)

until next time,
Jess.

  1. Jane Lynch is an Actress, not an actor.

  3. Actor is now the generic term for both males and females. I actually originally wrote actress, but changed it for the sake of political correctness.

and Addie, I miss you too!
